Hospice Legacy Process Improvement, Administration and Engagement

Freelance Consultant

Victoria Web Colour-14With over 25 years of extensive experience in process improvement, legal administration and charity fundraising, I bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise to every project. My skills lie in enhancing processes, driving engagement, and effectively managing legacies. Since 2020 I have managed legacies for both small and medium-sized charities, as well as part of a consultancy. I now operate as a freelance consultant.

I have successfully overseen legacy projects for a diverse range of organisations, including medical charities, hospices, faith-based charities, and higher education institutions.

I have also taken the lead in organising and delivering impactful training events focused on legacies, in addition to being a guest speaker at legacy webinars.

I have worked in fundraising since 2018 and have experience across a broad range of income streams, including community, events, corporate and digital.

As well as hands-on frontline fundraising, I have worked at a strategic level designing innovative new processes, and researching and implementing new income generation techniques across a range of income streams.

My professional background encompasses legal administration, event management, operations, marketing, and social media management.

I am a member of the Chartered Institue of Fundraising and the Institute of Legacy Management. ciof_logo_green_RGB2 Member-badge-small

In 2021-22, the average Legacy income in UK hospices was £1,390,000. This works out as approximately 16% of the annual gross income, and 43% of fundraised income.

Legacy giving is a vital income stream for hospices. It needs to be promoted sensitively and appropriately, but all staff should feel confident to talk openly, in a positive and hopeful way, about the incredible long term impact which even a small legacy can have.

Legacy income may not be as immediate as events, regular giving or lotteries, but even by simply providing your supprters with an easy way to leave you a gift, you can build a long term, committed relationship with your supporter.

Legacy income and administration may seem complex and daunting, but by making some simple changes and putting clear, easy to follow processes in place it can be managed effectively, ensuring your staff have time to focus on the people and families behind the donations.

Having experienced the amazing work done by hospices first hand, I want to make a difference and really help  you to maximise this income stream.

As an independent freelance consultant, my fees are considerably more reasonable than employing a large complex consultancy, who may take a large commission. This means my work is much more accessible to small and medium charities.

I charge an hourly rate, and any work I undertake will be time limited, so your charity won't be committed for an ongoing period beyond the specific work you need. You will know up front what you will be paying, and when the work will be completed. However, I can stay on in a support capacity on a retainer basis if required.

They were a real pleasure to work with and I’m already missing their warmth, expertise
and ideas, but luckily they’ve left us with more confidence and the knowledge to make sure we are making the most of legacies in the future.

We worked with them for around 9 months and they provided invaluable expertise and support in both areas.

They reviewed our whole legacy pipeline, ensuring we were recording information consistently and identifying a process for our fundraising and finance teams to keep track of legacy income and notifications, in a way that allowed us to accrue gifts more accurately according to the requirements of our auditors.
